EBook formats

There are three file types:

  1. MOBI – for Kindle devices or Kindle app
  2. EPUB – for other devices (e.g. tablet, mobile, PC, laptop, MAC)
  3. PDF – for other device without an EPUB reader (e.g. tablet, mobile, PC, laptop, MAC).

Instructions for the most popular devices and apps are below. Instructions may differ slightly depending on the generation of device or operating system.

Compatible eReaders and devices

On your eBook reader: Our eBooks can be viewed on any eReader device: Kindle, Kobo devices, Sony’s Reader, Barnes and Noble’s Nook, iOS (iPad), Android tablets, and others.

On your mobile phone/tablet: Most recent mobile phones and tablets have apps to read eBooks, for example, Kindle app (to read MOBI) or Apple Books or Google Play Books (to read EPUB).

On your laptop/desktop/MAC: Programs like Adobe Digital Editions allow reading of eBooks (EPUB) on your laptop, PC, or MAC.

Instructions for MOBI

Kindle Devices

Purchase the MOBI (Kindle) eBook.

On the purchase confirmation page, click on the “Download” button. (If you were unable to download at the time of purchase, use the link in the purchase email that you have been sent to return to this page).

Select a location to save your eBook file (called .MOBI) to a folder on your computer.

Turn your Kindle on, and connect your Kindle to your computer using the USB cable that came with your Kindle.

Drag and drop the MOBI eBook file from where you saved it on your computer and drop it into the Documents folder on your Kindle eBook reader.

When the USB activity indicator on your Kindle stops flashing, “Safely Remove Mass Storage Device (Windows) or “Eject” (MAC) the Kindle from your computer.

Note: if your Kindle doesn’t show up as disk drive on your computer, you may not have the correct driver installed.

Kindle App (used on any mobile phone, tablet, PC, laptop, and MAC)

The simplest option is to purchase the MOBI (Kindle) eBook directly on your mobile, tablet, PC, laptop, or MAC.

Before downloading the eBook, ensure that you have downloaded the free Kindle app (see below for links to the different Kindle apps) and logged in.

On the purchase confirmation page, click on the “Download” button. (If you were unable to download at the time of purchase, use the link in the purchase email that you have been sent to return to this page).

For iOS devices (iPad, iPhone): Select Open in “Kindle” from the browser window. The eBook will be opened in your Kindle app.

For Android devices: Once the file has been downloaded, locate the file in your file manager. Then copy and paste it to your Kindle folder. The Kindle folder is usually nested under the parent file directory. Then close the file manager and open the Kindle app.

For PC, laptop, and MAC: Once the file has been downloaded and saved to your machine, open the downloaded file. You should be prompted to open it in the Kindle app.

iPad and iPhone (using Apple Books)

The simplest option is to purchase the EPUB eBook directly on your iPad or iPhone.

On the purchase confirmation page, click on the “Download” button. (If you were unable to download at the time of purchase, use the link in the purchase email that you have been sent to return to this page).

Select Open in “Books” from the browser window. The eBook will be opened in the Books app.

Android devices (using Google Play Books)

The simplest option is to purchase the EPUB eBook directly on your Android tablet or phone.

On the purchase confirmation page, click on the “Download” button. (If you were unable to download at the time of purchase, use the link in the purchase email that you have been sent to return to this page).

Select Open in the pop-up (or if you missed pressing open, go to downloads and open the file). The eBook will open in Google Play Books.

PC, laptop, and MAC (using Adobe Digital Editions)

The simplest option is to purchase the EPUB eBook directly on your PC, laptop or MAC.

Before downloading the eBook, ensure that you have downloaded and installed Adobe Digital Editions. Click here to download Adobe Digital Editions.

On the purchase confirmation page, click on the “Download” button. (If you were unable to download at the time of purchase, use the link in the purchase email that you have been sent to return to this page).

Once the file has been downloaded and saved to your machine, open the downloaded file. You should be prompted to select an application to open the file. Choose Adobe Digital Editions to open the eBook.

Instructions for PDF

PDF files can be read on a mobile phone, PC, laptop, or MAC using the Adobe Reader for your computer or device.
